Pre-gelled self-adhering reusable electrodes come in an infinite variety of sizes, shapes and materials. Typical sizes are 2"x2" for most TENS applications and 2"x4" for many NMES applications. Sizes as small as 1.25" round and as large as 4"x6" are available.

The adhesion and conductivity of this type of electrode is dependant on the moisture content of the plastic polymer which acts as both "sticking" and "conductive" agent.

Generally you are able to use these electrodes up to 3-5 hours per session and you can expect a lifespan as long as 3-6 weeks. This longevity will vary widely in cases of extremes of hot and cold temperatures or with exposure to very high or very low ambient humidity. There are some electrode types that are considered more suitable for cases of very high humidity.

The 3 basic configurations of these pads are: "Carbon-Rubber" backed, "Foam" backed and "Mesh" backed. Each of them has their suitability in terms of individual patients and specific conditions.
